
As part of the LIDER XIV project, Prof. Dr. Izabela Zaborniak participated in the 3rd French–Polish Chemistry Congress, where she delivered a lecture entitled “Controlled Synthesis of Branched Polymeric Excipients for Modified Drug Release Applications.”
The lecture focused on branched polymeric pharmaceutical excipients developed within the LIDER XIV project for use in modified drug release systems. Particular attention was given to pH-responsive materials with potential applications in delayed and sustained drug release systems.
The designed materials incorporate ionizable functional groups, including acrylic acid groups and tertiary amines, which influence polymer swelling, matrix interactions, and the pH-dependent behavior of the materials. At the same time, non-ionic components are designed to improve the solubility, biocompatibility, and physicochemical stability of the developed materials.
One of the objectives of the research is to exploit the multibranched architecture of the polymers to potentially reduce the amount of excipient required and the overall tablet mass. This approach may contribute to improved patient comfort while also reducing the manufacturing costs of pharmaceutical dosage forms.
Participation in the congress also provided an opportunity to present research findings, exchange scientific expertise, and establish new scientific contacts within the international chemistry community.
