
From 9–14 June 2026, Prof. Dr. Izabela Zaborniak completed a scientific research visit to the research group led by Prof. Ignacio Fernández de las Nieves (Advanced NMR Methods and Metal-based Catalysts Research Group) and the laboratories of the Department of Chemistry and Physics, Research Centre CIAIMBITAL, at the University of Almería, Spain.
During the visit, at the invitation of the research team, Dr. hab. Eng. Izabela Zaborniak delivered a lecture entitled “Designing Drug Delivery Systems by Atom Transfer Radical Polymerization” (11 June 2026). The topic of the lecture was directly related to the research interests of the group and focused on the application of atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP) for the synthesis of polymers with diverse architectures for pharmacological and medical applications, with particular emphasis on sucrose-core polymers.
An important part of the visit was also familiarization with advanced instrumentation and NMR-based methodologies developed and applied by the research group for the analysis of polymer structure and architecture. The use of advanced analytical methods enables detailed characterization of synthesized sucrose-core polymers, including the composition of polymer chains and the molecular weight of branched architectures. These parameters significantly influence polymer properties and are particularly important when evaluating their potential for use in modified drug release systems.
The research visit provided an opportunity to exchange scientific expertise, establish potential research collaborations, and expand knowledge of advanced polymer characterization methods, while supporting the scientific development of the team and the implementation of the project objectives.
